Longtime Rhino Receives Promotion

Rhino DC proudly congratulates Donald “Donny” Hunt, recently promoted to full-time Supervisor. Donny’s been with Rhino since 2016, serving as a rigger, fork & scissor lift operator, manual spot & robo spot op, and safety supervisor.

DC also salutes the crew who built the stage for the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary celebration, bravely soldiering through tornado warnings, Secret Service sweeps and more. Hooah, Rhinos!

Club World Cup Serves Up Preview of World Cup

Rhino Florida stayed busy during May and June with the FIFA Club World (CWC) putting record numbers of theirs into action. Rhinos from LA, GA, and the Carolinas joined in, too. The CWC served as a preview for next year’s FIFA World Cup, which promises abundant work.

At the same time as the CWC, our Floridians were tasked with stadium shows for Shakira, Post Malone, Metallica, Luke Bryan and Stray Kids.

Looking ahead, more stadium shows are coming their way this summer: Morgan Wallen, Coldplay, Chris Brown and The Weeknd.

Joey Malone Moves Up and Out

Rhino Georgia received kudos from the Metallica tour after the metal giants’ Atlanta stop. Tour Manager Colin Miller wrote …

On behalf of the entire Metallica family, we wanted to thank you and your team for your generous hospitality, flexibility, and in making our time in Atlanta a wonderful experience. I hope to see you in the future.

Kudos also go to Matthew Stokes, now a full-time Supervisor, and Joey Malone, promoted to Regional Director over GA and TN. Joey’s headed to Nashville—he’ll be missed in GA!

New Battens for Baton Rouge Elementary School

Rhino Louisiana and RZI Lighting of New Orleans recently teamed up to install a pipe grid at Baton Rouge Center for Visual & Performing Arts.

Supervisors Sam Sprinkle and Alex Brazan led a team of Rhinos that included Robert Prokop and Dean Womack in the effort to bring theatrical lighting to this special focus elementary school.

Climbing High in Las Vegas

Rhino Nevada held rigging and climbing training in June at their Las Vegas office facility. Led by NV’s Director of Rigging Jim Webb and Asst. Director of Rigging Don Mundorff, Rhinos learned the basics of becoming a rigger and the fundamentals of climbing tower truss that are needed for building temporary stage structures for stadium and other outside shows.

Valued Client Opens New Venue

Rhino Northern California is proud to support Sacramento’s new Channel 24, a 2,150-cap venue run by valued Rhino client Another Planet Entertainment. A.P.E. promotes events in Northern California, putting Rhinos to work at the Greek Theater, the Fox Theatre, the Outside Lands festival and more.

Rhino Goes to the Rodeo

Rhino Tennessee got busy when Bridgestone Arena hosted Nashville’s first ever full PRCA ProRodeo. Rhinos from TN, LA, GA, TX, and CO teamed up under the supervision of Celeste Brown (Operations Manager – TN) and J Blain (Production Manager – CO). Celeste later confessed that this was, in fact, her first rodeo.

Kidding aside, the crew received a rave review for their work from the V.P. of Operations for Country Nation-Live Nation Marcy Szabo.

I want to say thank you to Celeste, J and all the crew. This was a hard one and their professionalism and hard work and willingness to give us time and space to work through this was so awesome.

On Task in Texas

Rhino Texas reports that most recently they …

  • Lent a hand in the Rigging and Audio Tech Departments for SpaceX / StarBase Launch #9.
  • Kept busy with national conferences such as BioHacking.
  • Stayed in the groove with their exclusive venues and eagerly lent a hand to other markets for stadium shows.
  • And, last but not least, received these kind words from client Kyle Swatzell of Night Light: “I am very impressed with the crew we have had in Austin, they are all rockstars and have had great attitudes the entire time. I will continue to use you guys as much as possible.

Tucson Triple Play

Rhino Tucson has stayed busy with training events, service calls and gigs, of course, including:

  • Scissor Lift and Boom Lift Training @ AVA Amphitheater. Supervisor/Scheduling Coordinator Marina Redoblado and Regional Director of Rigging Keno Snyder conducted two MEWP training courses for 18 of their fellow Rhinos. AVA owner/operator Casino Del Sol was gracious enough to provide the facility and the scissor lift for the training.
  • Scoreboard and PA Motor Service @ University of Arizona – McKale Center. This service call involved the complex operation (utilizing both rigging and rope access techniques) of securing the arena’s center hung scoreboard and eight PA speaker clusters and then removing the scoreboard’s eight 2-ton motors and the speaker clusters’ eight 1-ton motors. The motors were serviced and load tested by Keno before being reinstalled.
  • Los Tigres Del Norte @ AVA Amphitheater. And finally, the legendary norteño band Los Tigres Del Norte made another stop at AVA Amphitheater at Casino Del Sol for an evening of music and fun.
