National Director of Training Carolyn DuRoss and her team have been busy at it turning out new and updated training materials. Here are some highlights.

Carpentry Basics

Carpentry Basics, like the other Rhino “Basics” courses, gives those new to carpentry an overview of what the job entails and well as the tools and equipment most commonly used in that department. New material has been added as well.

Course details include:

  • Pointing out the different parts of a scaff stage
  • Expanding on power tools and power tool safety
  • Expanding on safety in general, including SDSs and GFCIs
  • Talking about stage layout and drawings
  • Showing how to read a tape measure

Competent Ground Rigger and Competent High Rigger

The Competent Rigger program aims to create a baseline of skills and a consistency in good practices for Rhino riggers across the country. Where paper tests leave off, Competent Rigger picks up with in-depth hands-on training that re-enforces Rhino’s standard of excellence in skill and safety.

Course details include:

  • Each course is divided into multiple modules.
    • Each modules covers a specific topic or skill.
  • It is to be taught in person.
  • It can be taught all at once (estimate three 8-hour days to do so).
  • Or it can be taught over a period of time followed by administration of the written test.
    • However, If it is taught over a period of time, the candidate has 30 days to complete the entire course.
    • The skills evaluation will still need to be done in a single day.

Note for Rhino Employees

If you are a Rhino employee in good standing, have passed our basic rigging training, and have completed down rigging field training (or have equivalent work experience), you may be qualified to take our Competent Ground Rigger training.
