The books you read and the people you meet.  I was once told these are the things that will have the biggest impact on my life, and I have not found anything to be more true.  Each and every day, we either meet new people or validate existing relationships.  First impressions matter as they set the tone for what can be years or even decades of interactions. Of Rhino’s service standards of safety, efficiency, courtesy, and integrity, it is courtesy that affects your relationships the most.

Courtesy is about considering people

Courtesy is about considering people.  Whether they be strangers or friends, clients or coworkers, significant others or family, everyone wants to be considered.  We all have a life story that led us to who we are.  What we choose to share is up to us.  Though our story may not be for everyone, we all have a story.  It is courteous in earnest to share and receive the aspects of each other that only strengthen our relationships.

Actions are definitive

Actions are definitive.  They define more about us than we could ever say.  Lending a hand when that hand could help is courtesy in action. Being courteous in how we treat one another perpetuates good will.  People are more willing to support those who consider them, those who value them, and those who validate them. Courtesy is one of the easiest ways to build trust.

It comes down to Trust

Trust.  That’s what it comes down to.  Do you feel comfortable with the company you keep? When so many things try to divide us from politics to religion, finances to lifestyle, or opinions to personal truths, focusing on the things that bring us together makes us all the more substantial.  Considering each other…that’s courtesy. And that’s the thing of it; our courtesy makes us a team.
